During the appeal process for DeBoer v
Snyder, a stay has been issued so that no further same-sex marriages can
take place in Michigan.
In addition, Governor Snyder has declared that
the 300 same-sex couples that got married on March 22 before the stay was
issued would not be recognized by the state.
However, the federal government will recognize
same-sex couples in Michigan.
Advertising freshman Meghan Rozman of Michigan
State University said that the 300 couples not being recognized by the state
have been revoked of their human rights.
“I feel bad for the couples that got married and
they’re no longer recognized because they were probably really excited to get
married in the first place. That they’re not recognized, it kind of takes a way
a part of human right,” Rozman said.
